Why I’m glad Great Britain exited the European Union

what-is-brexit-min-807x500Yesterday Great Britain, in historic voter turnout numbers, voted to leave the European Union.   Politicians and economic markets were anxiously awaiting the outcome, predicting Britain would remain, and telling the rest of us that remaining was clearly the right thing to do. The experts were surprised.

The markets immediately fell steeply, and although I’m not an economics expert, I still find myself rejoicing. Why?

Mainly, on Biblical grounds.   Biblical? Yes. We can go all the way back to the tower of Babel in Genesis 11 to see what God thinks when people unite “for the greater good”. They begin to think they don’t need God, and in their numbers and perceived strength, begin to act like God.

This is what began to upset the Brits.   Not only were the know-it-alls in Brussels (the EU headquarters) overseeing free trade and travel (that’s good, right?), but they were literally beginning to tell the British people whether they could have toasters, what kind of food they could eat, etc. A friend of mine in Croatia hates what the EU has done to his nation. They now decide which industries are good and not good for their nation. Corruption is rampant.

I asked a seasoned ministry friend of mine in London what he thought of the deal. He said this – We just got our country back and there was a lot of prayer that this would happen. Now we can make our own laws again“ (and much more).

In Paul’s message to the Athenian philosophers, he stated in Acts 17:26 that God “has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,”

We know from scripture that it is Satan who incites men to build large empires that govern other nations as they build their empire, usually a system that replaces self determination, and fidelity to the faith of their fathers, with dependency upon large government, on the condition that their worldview is abandoned and social engineering is embraced.  The bigger is better government here in the U.S. has the same approach.  We know that will be the goal of the antichrist in the last days – the power of ‘bigger’ in exchange for removing obstacles such as individual religious belief and all that comes with that. We also know that God is in the business of abolishing earthly empires and scattering us from the towers of Babel we attempt to build ‘up to the heavens’.    We should rejoice when we see any move toward that.
